Cherries have been linked to muscle recovery, according to the American College of Sports Medicine's  Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise journal.

Cherry juice contains powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidant compounds that likely decrease the oxidative damage that occurs when muscles work hard. The compounds, called anthocyanins, are also responsible for cherries' bright red color.

Dr. Wendy Bazilian, dietitian and author of The SuperFoodRx Diet, calls cherries "an ultimate super food."
