The Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion set a Guinness World Record for "the longest distance traveled by a standard production passenger car on a single tank of fuel," TreeHugger.com reports.
The Passat began its trip in Kent, England, heading to the south of France and back. The car made it nearly back to Calais before running out of fuel, traveling a total of 1,526.63 miles without refueling and averaging 74.8 miles per gallon, TreeHugger.com says.
The BlueMotion sports a few aerodynamic advantages, such as a low ride height, stop-start anti-idling, longer gear ratios, and low-rolling resistance tires. All are common options on cars in Europe and Asia, according to TreeHugger.com.
