40-Ton Whale Crushes Sail Boat

A South African couple got a 40-ton surprise when a southern right whale leapt onto their sail boat last Sunday, MSNBC reports

Paloma Werner and her boyfriend and sailing instructor, Ralph Mothes, were sailing along near Robben Island when they saw the whale flipping its tale. The watched the playful youngster for about half an hour before it dove under the water, then shot up and out of the sea and right onto their 10-meter yacht, breaking the mast and leaving blubber bits and barnacles behind.

Miraculously, nobody was hurt (including the whale), and the boat didn't take on any water. But some camera-ready tourists caught the action on camera. Click here for photos and a newscast of the event.
