Mountain Lions in Urban Areas

The Colorado Division of Wildlife has found higher numbers of mountain lions passing through urban areas, according to Using city greenbelts, mountain lions mostly feed on deer and elk as opposed to Fido. Of the 44 mountain lions the Colorado DOW began tracking three years ago, 18 are still alive. Most are killed by cars.The study is expected to be completed in 2013. This report brings to mind memories of when a 100-pound mountain lion broke through the glass door of a downtown Santa Fe jewelry store in 2007. Apparently, deer carcasses just won't do for that one-year anniversary gift anymore...
