Colorado's Arapahoe Basin will host its eighth annual Beacon Bowl and Avalanche Awareness Day  on Saturday, February 6, according to skinet.com. The event, benefitting the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, was developed by A-Basin’s ski patrol to teach and test skills for thebackcountry and to raise awareness about the dangers of avalanches. The day will include the Beacon Bowl, an avalanche transceiver competition, avalanche-related demonstrations and clinics, a raffle, silent auction and apr├Ęs ski party.

Why might attendance be a good idea? Check out this video of a skier caught in an avalanche and then read Avalanche Crash Testing's Fall Guy from our December 2009 issue.
