Model Plastiki For Your Shelf

Dec 7, 2009
Outside Magazine

Not everyone can help David de Rothschild build a ship out of plastic bottles and sail it across an ocean. For those of us stuck at home, Adventure Ecology is offering another option: Build a toy version.

The Plastiki in miniature

The toy Plastiki is a scale model of the 60 ft. catamaran. In keeping with de Rothschild's ethos, the model is made from cardboard approved by the Forest Stewardship Council and printed with vegetable inks. The model costs £18 (about $30) and half the proceeds go to Sculpt the Future, an organization that promotes environmental action.
