Outside's Dirty Jobs: Latrine Boat Operator

Oct 5, 2009
Outside Magazine

Our boy Kevin Fedarko has a video segment on Playboy.com that examines his job as a latrine boat operator for river tour groups in the Grand Canyon. Fedarko spent the spring of 2009 manning the Jackass, a river raft that he used to haul "poo boxes" and "pee buckets," and which acted as his temporary home. Watch as he explains about the planning that goes into excrement transportation, and how the tours take special care to make sure you have a great view while you go number two. Also, be sure to read Fedarko's July 2008 piece, "They Call Me Groover Boy," that he wrote for us, for a more in-depth look at the life of a latrine boat operator.
