University of Arizona senior Martin Keino, son of Kenyan Olympic champion Kip Keino, went wire to wire to win the NCAA cross-country championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on November 21. Finding himself with a surprisingly comfortable lead midway through the 10,000-meter race, Keino breezed home in 30:08.7, 50 meters ahead of runner-up Adam Goucher, a freshman at the University of Colorado. Unfortunately for young runners everywhere, it isn't the last they'll see of the Keinos, and in fact the victory may signal the start of a family dynasty. Martin, who will graduate this spring, is considered by many to be the second-best runner among the Keino offspring; younger brother Bob is a former high school national champ and a freshman at the University of Arizona.
