A Post-Race Party to Benefit the Phinney Foundation

Here's an opportunity for anyone who read Outside's interview with Davis Phinney and wondered, "How can I help?"

BMC Racing Team will be chasing a top finish at Sunday's time trial finale to the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, both for Taylor Phinney on the stage and Tejay Van Garderen on the overall. No matter the results, though, the team will be celebrating later that evening at Living the Ride, a gala fundraiser to benefit the Davis Phinney Foundation.

In what's being billed as a tribute to Jim Ochowicz, the seminal figure in American cycling, a star-studded cast of this country's road racing past and present will gather at the Grand Hyatt in downtown Denver after Stage 7. Ochowicz, an ex-Olympic cyclist who founded Team 7-Eleven (which became Motorola) and currently manages the BMC Racing Team, will be joined by all eight BMC racers in Colorado for the USAPCC, including Cadel Evans, Taylor Phinney, and Van Garderen. A special homage will be paid to George Hincapie, who is concluding his 19-year professional career at the Colorado tour.

Also on the guest list are Davis Phinney, Ron Kiefel, Raul Alcala, Eric Heiden, Bob Roll, and five more Team 7-Eleven alums, who will be signing copies of the recently released book Team 7-Eleven: How an Unsung Band of American Cyclists Took on the World—and Won. During the event, there will be a silent auction for, among other things, a BMC StreetRacer, a weekend getaway in Napa, a Gates Carbon Drive-equipped BMC urban bike, and cycling paraphernalia, including Davis Phinney's "Silver Bullet" Coors Classic jersey and one of Van Garderen's white jerseys from the 2012 Tour de France.

Tickets for Living The Ride cost $250 and will be available through Friday night or until the event sells out. For those not in Colorado, the silent auction will be accessible online during the event at CyclingSoul. All proceeds will benefit the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's.
