Surfing Kamchatka

A group of six surfers sponsored by Patagonia set off on August 31 for an exploratory surf and fly-fishing trip to the volcano-dotted coast and salmon-stocked rivers of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. The crew includes photographer Chris Burkard, surf ambassador Keith Malloy, and Foster Huntington, who will be posting updates of the journey on Patagonia's The Cleanest Line blog.

The first dispatch includes a video about the team's preparation. They have packed everything from homemade flies to wetsuits to a variety of different boards. Varied quivers will help them explore and test the different surf spots, from point breaks to river mouth set ups.

Head over to The Cleanest Line for the first podcast dispatch, a shot of the burly truck they're using to transport their gear, and a series of photos from Burkard.
