At 9 a.m. on Friday, Vail will open its 2014-2015 ski and snowboard season with lifts running out of the Vail Village and Lionshead base areas. According to an announcement on Vail’s website, six lifts will offer access to 540 acres of terrain. This includes the Mountain Top Express Lift, from which skiers and riders can descend the black diamond Powerline Glade.

More than three feet of snow has fallen at the resort since last Monday; an additional 12 to 18 inches is in the forecast for next week.

“Conditions on the mountain are even better than we initially anticipated, and we’re thrilled with what we’ll be able to offer to guests beginning on Friday,” Chris Jarnot, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain, told First Tracks Online.
