kona zing deluxe $2,000 Better known for its rock-bashing, mud-splashing models, Kona gussied itself up for 2006 with a series of new road bikes, including the Zing Deluxe. The teardrop-shaped 7005 aluminum tubing has more crackle than a box of Pringles, which made us grin on the uphills, where the Deluxe moved like a high-speed quad at Whistler. But in spite of the road-taming carbon fork and rear end, the aluminum proved too stiff for some on all-day rides. With tenacious Shimano 105 components throughout and a robust Mavic Aksium wheelset equipped with long-lasting Continental Grand Prix tires, the Deluxe is a good choice for recreational trainers who throw in the occasional hard-charging club ride.Bonus: You get the same agile Dedacciai aluminum frame as the next model up for significantly less.Bummer: It's not the leanest ride for the price. 20.2 lbs, 58 cm; www.konaworld.com
