Arc'Teryx Epsilon SV Hoody $225
THE SELL: A breathable and lightly insulated hard-faced fleece shell built for high-output activities in the mountains. THE TEST: We bushwhacked through BC's Coast Mountains. We shinnied up basalt chimneys. And the Epsilon's tough and highly water-resistant fabric couldn't have cared less. But it was the little things that won us over. Like the fact that you can adjust the brimmed hood—with gloved hands, in about two seconds—from inside the two front hand-warmer pockets. And those pockets are mesh-lined: instead of stopping to de-layer, we simply cracked them and kept pushing for the summit. THE VERDICT: Classic Arc'teryx. It excels in nasty conditions and makes you look more studly than you probably are.
Wind/water resistance: 3
Breathability: 4
