There are plenty of gear companies with progressive business practices and well-earned reputations for pitching in and giving back. And then there’s Patagonia. The company will reuse or recycle your old and stanky Capilene long underwear. It partnered with a bunch of musicians who also give a damn; buy songs on iTunes created for the Patagonia Music Collective and 61 percent of the proceeds go to the artist’s favorite environmental charities. And Patagonia recently joined forces with eBay to create a microsite to encourage reselling of its garments. So are you surprised that every dime from sales of the limited-edition Live Simply T-shirt go to support those affected by last year’s Japanese tsunami? Neither are we.
