Think of the Surly Pugsley as the mountain-bike equivalent of fat skis. Run at ultralow pressure (4–6 psi), its superfat four-inch-wide tires allow you to maintain traction and float through otherwise unrideable terrain like sand, mud, ice, and especially snow. Even more impressive is that, thanks to savvy engineering, it still rides like a bike and not a ­monster truck.
