Steiner 8.5x50 Peregrine - Binoculars: Reviews

SUPERSIZE MELast year's Peregrines scored Gear of the Year by delivering sharp images and brilliant color rendition. By cranking the big objective lenses up to 50 millimeters—generally the upper limit for handhelds—and dialing back the magnification just a hair, Steiner is improving on greatness in a 26-ounce package. Bound for overcast Alaska? These deliver penetrating views of nesting eagles and frolicking humpbacks.

Bonus: The ribbed armor keeps you on target when fumbling to catch that retreating cougar.

Bummer: Folding rubber eyecups aren't nearly as adjustable as the twist-ups found on other leading binoculars.
