WATCH: Runner Loses Shoe in 1,500-Meter Race

“I just thought, there’s no way I’m not going to finish. I’m going to run as hard as I can, and as everyone went by me, I just thought, I’ll get them next week.”    Universal Sports Network / YouTube

On Tuesday, Jenny Simpson ran the final 600 meters of the 1,500-meter finals at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing without a shoe, according to the Denver Post. The heel of her shoe got caught on another runner and slipped off, she told Universal Sports.

Simpson, who won a gold medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2011 World Championships, crossed the finish line with a time of 4:16.28 for 11th place.

“I just thought, there’s no way I’m not going to finish. I’m going to run as hard as I can, and as everyone went by me, I just thought, I’ll get them next week,” she said (in reference to the Diamond League meetings, which begin September 3rd in Zurich). “I already have more than I deserve. I have two medals at home. I had the opportunity to race here. It didn’t go how I wanted, but at the end, I’m really grateful.”
