First Impressions: Kammok Firebelly Trail Quilt

The Firebelly trail quilt from Kammok is versatility defined. The traditional bed quilt transforms into a sleeping bag thanks to drawcords that create a cozy footbox and snaps that keep you snug. Watch to find out why Outside's online gear editor Jakob Schiller plans on using this lightweight quilt everywhere he goes this summer.

JAKOB SCHILLER: Hey there, my name is Jakob Schiller. I'm the online gear editor here at Outside magazine. Today we are talking about the Firebelly trail quilt from Kammok. This is a cool little thing that we just came across. It's essentially a quilt. It's a down quilt, but it's got some really nice features that really sets it apart from your regular quilt. It's made from a ripstop nylon. It's not going to tear on you. It also has 750 down that's water resistant so you can take it out—it's going to still keep you warm if it gets damp, but it also transforms, which is the really cool part.

So you see that I've cinched down the bottom with these cords, and then you velcro together, creating a foot box, and then you can bring it together and sort of make your own sleeping bag. So this is a piece that would do great in the back of your Tacoma or your van as a blanket and or as a sleeping bag, but you could also throw it in your pack and take it camping as well because it packs down. It's fairly light. A pad also integrates in the bottom so it's an all-in-one sleep system, and it's something that we're excited to be using all summer because it's so versatile, because we can use it in so many different ways.

So this costs $299, which is a lot of money so you're wondering why would I buy this instead of a regular sleeping bag, which is a great question. I think it's because of the versatility. You're getting the nicest materials. You're getting as nice of materials as you would in a high-end sleeping bag, and you're getting the versatility of something that is a great car camping piece, but also might work out in the mountains when you're camping, you know, in warmer climates.

So again, the Firebelly trail quilt from Kammok.
