Hollywood, California, has great hiking, amazing live music, and some of the best dog-friendly restaurants in the country. But, until now, it’s offered exactly zero climbing. That's changing this month with the opening of Hollywood Boulders. Touchstone Climbing’s latest gym offers 11,000 square feet of climbable real estate on the corner of Bronson and Santa Monica.

With over 200 continually reset problems, Hollywood Boulders offers plenty of variety for climbers of any skill level. Beginners will find accessible routes, as well as regular “Intro to Bouldering” classes, while expert climbers will be challenged by the gym’s multiple overhanging routes, including those in “The Roof,” where pitches range from V6 to V11.

“We set out to create a gym that has something for every climber,” says manager Nash Anderson. Shoes and chalk bags are available to rent or buy on-site and membership is $77 per month.

In addition to the walls, the gym offers a full weight room complete with squat racks, dumbbells, Olympic bars, and kettlebells, as well as cardio equipment like stationary bicycles and elliptical machines. Regular yoga and Pilates classes are free to members.

In a neighborhood where other gyms are typically pick-up joints for sleaze bags or hyper-exclusive, incredibly expensive refuges for rich people, perhaps the best thing about Hollywood Boulders is that it’s friendly, clean, and full of normal people just enjoying themselves. It’s where I work out.
