Great Family Adventures: Discovery Adventures' 'Historic Parks of the American Southwest'

Yes, we know: The family vacation is a much-parodied event, and perhaps rightfully so. But fumbles, foibles, and hassles aside, families keep taking them for the same good reason: They’re priceless sources of memories.

HIGHLIGHTS: Show your children no fewer than six national parks within the span of 12 well-planned days. Together, you’ll behold the majesty—colors, forms, cultures, wildlife—of our nation’s legendary Southwest. The itinerary includes getting into the Grand Canyon, hiking Zion, examining Bryce Canyon’s hoodoos, and exploring the archaeological ruins at Mesa Verde. You’ll learn about the intriguing Betatakin cliff dwellings, drive Monument Valley by 4x4 with a Navajo guide, and bear witness to ancient topographical treasures including sandstone arches and the Escalante Staircase. Though the itinerary’s pace is pleasantly brisk and involves hitting the trails a lot, it’s not too hard on kids—though Discovery recommends that children be at least 12 years old to join.

OUTFITTER: Discovery Adventures partnered with G Adventures in 2009 to offer immersive experiences that showcase what’s featured on the Discovery Channel.
