Great Family Adventures: Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale's 'Kids' Kayak Tour'

Yes, we know: The family vacation is a much-parodied event, and perhaps rightfully so. But fumbles, foibles, and hassles aside, families keep taking them for the same good reason: They’re priceless sources of memories.

HIGHLIGHTS: To provide their guests with outdoor experiences, the upscale Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale partners with an outfitter called Arizona Outback Adventures, which tailors adventures to encompass anything from hiking to mountain-biking. For kids, the Four Seasons staff recommends a youth-oriented adaptation of AOA’s adult kayak tour. It includes a safety orientation, paddling instruction, and guidance through the mostly-smooth rapids of Arizona’s high-desert terrain. Back at the Four Seasons, there’s an onsite trail that heads up Pinnacle Peak, and the free “Kids for All Seasons” program, whose programs feature live animals and teach little ones about the desert ecosystem.

OUTFITTER: Arizona Outback Adventures is a 23-year-old outfitter that specializes in taking people into the Southwest’s deserts, mountains, and canyons. The Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon North is a 13-year-old luxury resort in the Sonoran Desert.

ITINERARY: The kayak tour departs from and returns to Saguaro Lake Ranch.

DATES: Available year-round.

PRICE: Rooms at the Four Seasons start at $449 per night, and the adventure excursions can be booked in conjunction with your stay. Pricing on those varies, depending on the activities.
