Great Family Adventures: Trek Travel's 'Vermont Family Bicycle Tour'

Yes, we know: The family vacation is a much-parodied event, and perhaps rightfully so. But fumbles, foibles, and hassles aside, families keep taking them for the same good reason: They’re priceless sources of memories.

HIGHLIGHTS: For six summer days, take in the quaint New England scenery of central Vermont from the saddle of a bike rolling down some of America’s most scenic roads. Pedal past barns, covered bridges, log cabins, and old-fashioned towns (including Middlebury and Stowe), with views of the green Champlain Valley and the Adirondacks all the while. Daily rides range from 15 to 50 miles, so kids should be up for those distances. They’ll be heartily rewarded with a tour of Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory, a maple-syrup tasting at a small sugarhouse, and an equestrian ride at UVM’s Morgan Horse Farm. Off the bike, you’ll canoe or kayak down Lamoille River, hike rustic Elmore State Park, swim Silver Lake, and sleep in historic inns.
