Adventure Video of the Week: The Gimp Monkeys

When climbers Jarem Frye, Craig DeMartino, and Pete Davis met at the 2006 Extremity Games, an X Games-style event for amputee athletes, one of them proposed tackling a big wall in Yosemite. "The three of us are all climbers first, and then second, we're disabled," says Arc'Teryx athlete Craig DeMartino. "And so, if climber is what you are, one of the best things you can do as a climber is to climb El Cap."

The Gimp Monkeys is a eight-minute short from Duct Tape Than Beer that follows the crew's quest to climb Zodiac, an 1,800-foot route up the southeast face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

The film premiered in early October at the Adventure Film Festival in Boulder, Colorado, where the three stars took home the award for Athletes of the Year. The screening was met with a ton of laughter and cheering, according to co-director Fitz Cahall. The film will screen this weekend at the Adventure Film Festival in Asheville, North Carolina—just in case you want to watch it again, this time with a crowd.
