AMC Buys Land in Maine, Gives to Hikers

On Monday, the Appalachian Mountain Club announced that it purchased a 29,500-acre tract of land in the forests of Maine. The acquisition of the land (which AMC has donated to the State of Maine) creates a 63-mile long corridor of conservation land from the Katahdin Iron Works north to Baxter State Park. The protection of this land provides recreation area for hikers and backpackers, and preserves the headwaters of the West Branch of the Pleasant River, a native brook trout fishery.
