Avalanche Hits 11 Climbers, One Presumed Dead

A climber who went missing Saturday on Mount Rainier is now presumed dead, according to the Seattle Times. On Saturday, 11 climbers were overtaken by an avalanche, and all were pulled out by fellow climbers but one. The climber is believed to be a 27-year-old man from Olympia, says Mount Rainier spokesman Kevin Bacher, who is not releasing a name. Searchers are still waiting for weather conditions to improve to resume the search to recover the body.
