First Unassisted Crossing of Antarctica

Ryan Waters, 36, and Cecilie Skog, 35, have become the first to achieve an unassisted crossing of Antarctica, Explorers Web reports. They started their expedition on November 13, 2009 and ended it today at the Ross Ice Shelf. They walked about 1,800 kilometers and climbed up to 3,200 meters.
Skog has distinguished herself previously as the first woman to summit the highest peaks on all seven continents and make her way to the North and South Poles unassisted. Nabbing the Antarctic first was particularly special, though, because it was the dream of her husband, who died on K2 in 2009.
