Mouthpieces May Provide Athletic Edge

Performance mouthpieces may help reduce stress during exercise and help athletes to breathe easier, says a piece in the New York Times' Fitness Section. We're not talking your generic rubber mouth guard here -- you know, the kind that turns you into a drooling mess; these hi-tech mouth pieces created by Makkar and Under Armour can run several hundred dollars to more than $2,000. The thin molds must be fitted by a dentist, and they position the jaw to prevent clenching and support breathing in order to aid better athlete performance. According to the article, a study by Rutgers on the Makkar product did not produce outstanding results, but noted that "for a performance athlete who has been training for a long time, even a 3, 4, or 5 percent increase in performance is hard to come by." Indeed, many professional athletes use the mouthpieces, including Derek Jeter, Shaquille O'Neill, and Terrell Owens.

Would you?

I have the Under Armour mouthpiece and it rocks! I'm a triathlete and have noticed a significant increase in strength when I train at the gym. I'm also more relaxed and recover much faster from my workouts. Apparently the UA mouthpiece was developed by a company called Bite Tech. They have a website and a Facebook page with lots of testimonials. At first I was very skeptic but now I'm a believer!

I have the train Wicked mouthpeice and I love it It was recommended by my trainer otherwise I might not have Even thought of it! I use it everyday , not only do I get the extra performance It stops me from grinding my teeth! My dentist was trying to get Me to buy one from him just to stop the grinding , but the cost was in the Hundreds and that wasn't appealing , but when my trainer Said I could gain more reps / strength ... Now that was appealing!! Lol And for $40 bucks I'd try it ... Far cry from a couple hundred! Anyway highly recomend it!
