NORTH FACE - The Movie
Climbers of all skills know of the Eiger. This 13,025' peak in the Swiss Alps has been a topic of legend and tales for centuries. Climbing the north face has been lusted and sought out by climbers and was featured in the Clint Eastwood classic, the Eiger Sanction. It was first climbed in 1938 and 64 climbers have died attempting the steep and dangerous north face.

NORTH FACE is a gripping adventure drama about a competition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps. It’s 1936, and Nazi propaganda urges German Alpinists to conquer the unclimbed north face of the Swiss massif, the Eiger North Face – aka “Murder Wall” – before the Olympic Games begin.
The legendary 1800-meter-high wall of stone and ice has been casting its spell for decades, and two young hot-shot Bavarian climbers, Toni Kurz (BENNO FÜRMANN) and Andi Hinterstoisser (FLORIAN LUKAS), are finally lured into the challenge.Beginning their ascent, the German rope team initially makes good headway, followed closely by two Austrians. But after that auspicious start, the climbers lose their advantage over the mountain, and the race against time and the forces of nature begins.
Realistically shot, NORTH FACE reveals the brutal struggle to survive on the mountain. Director/screenwriter Philipp Stölzl keeps viewers as breathless as if they were climbing the mountain themselves, rather than sitting comfortably in a theatre.Few people may remember the story of Toni Kurz and Andi Hinterstoisser directly, but many will find their own reflection in these characters – not only Alpinists and nature lovers, but all who are still searching for their path in life.

Flag ThisA very good movie, showing how some very bold and welltrained men tried to climbe up the North Side of Mount Eiger in Austria just before The second World War. 1936. Very well done, the german enviroment at that time is excellent staged! The whole adventure , two german guys that are enough strong and easygoing to risk their lives in the most challeging climbing advanture I ever seen! I have with friends climbed up over 3.000 meters so I know what I´m talking about. With some firends, crazy enough to do the challange. Yes we were four men, almost everything that happened in this movie we experienced the same, on a much smaller scale, but still we fell on the downward path, were badly hit, like in the movie but could be rescued by helicopter. That these guys back in the thirties didn´t have! We had cellphones but out of four companies just one responded! Yeah we also runned out of food, had too litlle sleep, got more aggressive after 40 hours of constant climbing, up and down, so this movie really captured it all. You get deadtired, believe me! SO unbelievable GOOD!!! A must for most people especially adventure seeking guys! But also for brave women that are willing to risk their lifes to rescue us! Why are we men constantly challeging destiny, to strenghten our bodies, to show we are capable or just because some of us has to do it! My advice to all adventures guys and women, practise, never underestimate a challange, when things happens it happens fast! Always try to take short brakes, eat and get some sleep when you can, be humble and pray, never give UP! And always try to keep the group together! If Yor are two take someone with you that you can trust with your life! Try to read and study in advance!! Do a lot of hiking and exploring under controlled conditions before you get out in the wilderness and exploring the alps! Never think it will not happen to us, it willl!! Be prepared! I was like climbing on the Mountain myself, going through a lot of things again! seeing this movie, impressive!!!!
