Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Winners Announced

The eleventh annual Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards, often lauded as the Oscars of big-wave surfing, took place Saturday in Anaheim, California. A panel of 400 surfers, photographers, and surf media editors reviewed more than 1,000 images and videos submitted to this year's contest, which included categories ranging from Ride of the Year to Best Wipeout.

And the winners are...

RIDE OF THE YEAR — DANILO COUTO at Jaws, Maui, Hawaii 

BIGGEST WAVE AWARD — BENJAMIN SANCHIS at Belharra, France

Wave measured at 67 feet on the face

MONSTER PADDLE AWARD — SHANE DORIAN at Jaws, Hawaii

MONSTER TUBE AWARD — SHANE DORIAN at Jaws, Hawaii

VERIZON WIPEOUT AWARD — MARK MATHEWS at Shipstern Bluff, Tasmania

The award for Best Overall Performance went to Sion Milosky of Lawai, Kauai, and Keala Kennelly of Honolulu, Hawaii.
