Kitesurfer Jumps Pier During Tropical Storm Debby

A St. Petersburg man recently kitesurfed into a jump over a pier during tropical storm Debby. The YouTube clip is making the rounds online, from the Huffington Post to Grind TV. Anyone watching the video with any sort of memory of viral kitesurfing videos will remember the CNN clip from August of 2008.

The 2008 clip offers some perspective about what can happen when kitesurfing in extreme conditions during a storm. The video shows a kitesurfer in Fort Lauderdale getting picked up and thrown into a building by the winds of Tropical Storm Fay. He survived injuries that included spinal fractures, brain swelling, broken ribs, and a broken ankle. He said, if given the chance, he'd do it again.

Warning: The video is graphic.
