The Buy One Give One Model Comes to Bicycles

Source2

This September, Specialized Bicycles will release a limited edition Source Two WBR. It’s not a bike for winning high speed road races or for hurling yourself down rocky outcroppings. It’s a metro-styled urban cruiser that won a host of design awards in Europe last year.

But the best thing about this limited edition bike is that when you buy one, Specialized will donate a Buffalo Bicycle to World Bicycle Relief (WBR), an organization that distributes culturally appropriate bicycles in rural sub-Saharan Africa, where the bike is the single most important tool to achieve independence.

The Buffalo Bicycle is a carefully crafted, universally fit burly hunk of steel built for big loads on tough roads—sometimes as much as 400 pounds of corn or melons or wood.

In the region where WBR works, having a bike makes an income possible. Vegetables and wares can be brought to market and sold. Traveling by bicycle also increases access to education (students can get to faraway schools—there is no bus service), and families can get to medical clinics. Get yourself a sweet ride to do your own commuting, cruising or carousing, and set someone else up for a better life.

Specialized is only making 300 of the Source Two WBR bikes. Each has an alloy frame and fork, and cutting-edge cruising components, like SRAMS’s new Via GT hydraulic brakes and Gates Carbon Drive CDX CenterTrack belt drive.

The limited edition bike will be available in 20 countries around the world. Want one? You might want to talk to your local dealer about pre-ordering. Available September 2012; $1,500; specialized.com.
