Police Kill Mountain Lion in Berkeley
Police shot and killed a mountain lion that was roaming the streets of Berkeley, Calif. early Tuesday morning, the New York Times reports.
People spotted the 100 pound female around 2 a.m. on Walnut St. near the ritzy Chez Panisse restaurant. "Police officers tracked the cougar as it ran through the surrounding residential neighborhood," the Times reports, then shot the animal at 3:30 a.m.
The shooting upset the Berkeley community, sparking debate about the options police had other than shooting the cat on local blog Berkeleyside.
