Avalanches Kill Seven Skiers and Climbers in Alps

Rain, heavy snow, and fluctuating temperatures contributed to avalanches that killed seven people in Italy's Dolomites over the past few days, reported the BBC. In the region of Trentino, two climbers were buried and killed in a slide, then four of their rescuers died in a subsequent avalanche. In the same area, another avalanche killed a 12-year-old boy skiing off-piste, though it spared his brother and his friend. A British man also died in a slide in Chamonix on Christmas Day. The conditions across the Alps reportedly remain unstable.
