Sherpas Protest for Himalayas
More than 300 Nepalis, including 100 climbers, protested in Copenhagen to bring international attention to the effects of climate change on the Himalayas, TakePart reports. "It didn’t snow at all during December, January, and February, when itshould snow heavily, and it finally snowed massively in May, when it’susually dry," said mountaineer Apa Sherpa in a statement. "Our agriculture, our tourism, our livelihoods--it is alldependent on the Himalayas," says Manjeet Dhakal of the Nepali delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference. The Energy and Resources Institute predicts that the central and easternglaciers of the Himalayas could melt by 2035.
