Surfer Joel Ford on His Brother Sam

On a late night in October 2009, while walking down the street in Coolangatta, Australia, then 18-year-old Sam Ford was violently attacked by another teen. After surgery and more than a month in a coma, he woke up. My Brother Sam is the story of his recovery as seen through the eyes of his younger brother, freesurfer Joel Ford.

Sam is permanently brain-damaged and his life will never be the same. With help from his family, he has found an outlet in art. The brothers are using Sam's art and story to raise awareness about the dangers of street violence.
