The 50 Best Places to Work in America

Outside Magazine, May 2010 We've announced our annual “Best Places to Work” list. Of the 50 selected companies, Natural Habitat Adventures, New Belgium Brewing, and Clif Bar & Company claimed the top spots. The full list and related story will be published in the May issue of Outside magazine, available on newsstands April 27, 2010. Outside's "Best Places to Work" list was compiled with the help of the Outdoor Industry Association and Best Companies Group.

The year-long selection process began with an outreach effort that identified a wide range of non-profit and for-profit organizations with at least 15 employees working in the United States. Participating companies were then sent confidential employee-satisfaction surveys and employer-questionnaires to collect information about benefits, compensation, policies, job satisfaction, environmental initiatives, and community outreach programs. All of the results were analyzed by Best Companies Group experts, who selected the 50 companies that strive to enhance their employees' enjoyment of active endeavors, and environmental and social involvement.

Best Places to Work "These 50 companies come from a vast array of industries but they're all following the same enlightened path," said Michael Roberts, Executive Editor of Outside. "They're successful businesses in a challenging economy precisely because they support a proper work-life balance. They know that benefits like on-site gyms and fitness classes, reimbursements for ski passes and sports racing fees, and support for community service efforts during work hours make their employees happier and thus more productive."

Saw this article at the dentist office. I couldn't find one hospital on the list. Ive worked in healthcare for almost 2 decades and have found that overall hospitals hold very little or no value of their employees, often over burdening them with responsibility and workload. I get 3 days off a year

I read this article at a friend's house while celebrating her new job at one of the companies that made your top 50 list. I also work for an amazing company that definitely supports a proper work-life balance. While our corporate office is in California many of my colleagues and I work from satellite offices all over the country. We are encouraged to think out of the box, be active in our communities, support charities and much more. Our President & CEO has frequent dinners at his house and when we have summits, where all employees are at our corporate office, it feels like visiting your best friends to collaborate! While iD Tech Camps was not featured in your Top 50 Best Places to Work, we were honored by the Bay Area News Group as 2010's Top Workplace in the Bay Area! I look forward to seeing iD Tech Camps listed in your Top 50 Best Places to Work in 2011! Check us out at www.internaldrive.com

I'm sorry to see no healthcare facilities made the list. Wonder if the OTA certificate's gonna be worth the trouble after all . . . hmmmmm.
