Vuelta 2010 Made for Climbers

The 2010 Vuelta a Espana route has been announced, Velo News reports. The race will begin with an evening stage in Seville on August 28. Riders will then cover over 3,300 km in the 21-stage race.

This year's Vuelta includes only one time trial made for sprinters, on the 17th stage of the race. The rest of the race favors climbers, as there are six summit finishes, says Cycling Weekly. One of them will occur at the famed Lagos de Covadonga.

Will a climbing-heavy Vuelta be enough to get Alberto Contador to participate in this year's event? The 2008 Vuelta winner, has yet to make a decision as to whether he and team Astana could participate in two major events in one season.

Alejandro Valverde, winner of last year's Vuelta, will again participate. Video of Valverde's 2009 victory can be found here
