2014 Winter Olympics Adds 12 Events

To be the biggest Winter Games ever

By:

The 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, will be the biggest Winter Games ever, event officials announced on Thursday. During a media briefing, sports director Irina Gladkikh outlined the 12 new events that have been added to the 2014 Games: biathlon (mixed relay), figure skating (team), freestyle skiing (men’s and women’s slopestyle, men’s and women’s half pipe), luge (team relay), ski jumping (women), and snowboarding (men’s and women’s slopestyle, men’s and women’s parallel slalom). That brings the total number of medal events to 98 across 15 different sports—up from 86 in 2010. The Sochi Games will take place from February 7 to 23.
