At least one house has been damaged after a beaver dam in Duval, Washington, broke apart, unleashing the mud, water, and debris of a four-acre pond into the surrounding area. "I had a wall of water four to five feet high, 160 feet wide up behind my house, around both sides of my house," said Bob Siko, whose property is now buried in sand and silt. A spokesperson for the King County Office of Emergency Management also reported road closures in the area, including state Highway 203. Siko told the Seattle Times that he had taken his concerns about the dam to King County officials earlier in the year and was told that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would look into it. He never heard from the agency. It is still unclear what caused the break in the dam.
