Aspen is readying for the return of World Cup skiing next week, but persistent health problems make the participation of reigning World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn uncertain. Favorable conditions allowed Aspen organizers to give the go-ahead on Thursday for the giant slalom and slalom events, now scheduled to take place November 24 and 25. “I didn't think that was going to happen a week ago. We literally got this last storm at exactly the right time,” said organizer Jim Hancock. “It's great for the team—it generates buzz in town.” Vonn was briefly hospitalized this week complaining of severe intestinal pain. She did not attend Thursday's ceremony introducing the U.S. Ski Team, and her publicist was not able to provide a timetable for her return to skiing.
