American distance runners broke five national indoor records at meets across the country this weekend in one of the busiest stretches of racing of the year. Bernard Lagat won the 2012 Millrose Games in New York in 13:07.15, bettering Galen Rupp's 2011 mark by more than four seconds. Rupp, racing at a separate meet in Fayeteville, Arkansas, in turn ran 8:09.72 to break Lagat's old U.S. two-mile record by two seconds. Brigham Young University runner Miles Battey also lowered the NCAA mile record to 3:54.54, and U.S. and all-comers collegiate records fell both the men's 3,000-meters and 5,000-meters.
