On Saturday, self-proclaimed "viking" sailor Jarle Andhoy and his crew on the yacht Nilaya were detained by Chilean authorities as he returned from an illegal voyage to the Antarctic. All crew members were reportedly alive and well after they were taken into custody for giving a false name for the yacht over the radio. Crew members on the Nilaya had not been heard from since mid-March, when the yacht's boom had snapped and the ship was reportedly running out of supplies. Andhoy failed to obtain permits before embarking on an expedition to Antarctica in January, where he hoped to find the remains of his yacht Berserk, which sank on another illegal voyage the previous year.
