Wiggins Captures Narrow Paris-Nice Win



Great Britain's Bradley Wiggins on Sunday sealed an overall victory at the Paris-Nice stage race with an eight-second time-trial win over Dutch rider Lieuwe Westra. Wiggins, a 2004 and 2008 Olympic gold medalist on the track, is only the second British rider to win Paris-Nice. He will now turn his attention to July's Tour de France, where he hopes to challenge defending champion Cadel Evans of Australia. Nobel Prize-Winning Chemist Dies at 84



Nobel Prize-winning scientist F. Sherwood Rowland died from complications of Parkinson's on Saturday at his home in California. The 84-year-old chemist was considered a pioneer of research about the ozone and the effects of chloroflourocarbons. Rowland's first paper on the subject was discounted by other scientists when it was published in the 1970s, but he won a Nobel Prize for chemistry for his work in 1995. Afghanistan Avalanche Kills 45



On Monday, a second major avalanche in Afghanistan struck villages near the Pakistan border, killing at least 45 people. Heavy snow blocked roads to the remote mountain community and restricted rescue efforts. "We are not sure how many died and how many survived. Skicross Racer Zoricic Dies in Crash



Canadian skier Nil Zoricic died Saturday morning in a finish-line crash at a World Cup skicross event in Grindelwald, Switzerland. Zoricic, 29, was competing in a qualifying heat in the season's final race when he went wide on the last jump, landing hard on a mesh fence to skier's right of the finish structure.
