Grizzly Bear Kills Hiker in Denali



A San Diego photographer was killed by a grizzly bear in Alaska’s Denali National Park on Friday while taking pictures of the animal. The body of 49-year-old Richard White was found after hikers stumbled upon an abandoned backpack and found torn clothing and blood along the Toklat River. Park officials were able to recover White’s camera, which showed photos of the bear grazing and not acting aggressively. He photographed the bear for at least eight minutes before being attacked. Youth Track Official Killed by Javelin



A German sports official died Monday after being struck in the throat by a javelin. The 74-year-old man was overseeing a youth meet in the city of Düsseldorf when a 15-year-old competitor threw the object. "The popular and experienced sports judge was the victim of a tragic accident while carrying out his duties on Aug. 26," the local athletics association said on its website. Gelmanov, Stohr Win Bouldering World Cup



Rustam Gelmanov and Anna Stohr took first place overall at this year's bouldering World Cup, locking up their wins on Sunday at the series' final event in Munich, Germany. Gelmanov had been tied for first with Austrian Kilian Fischhuber leading into the final boulder, but took top honors with a fourth-place finish in the last event after Fischhuber failed to qualify for the semi-finals. $1 Billion in Pot Seized on Public Lands



Federal agents have seized over $1 billion worth of marijuana in an operation on public lands in California and six other western states. The two-month operation, dubbed Mountain Sweep, netted over 550,000 pot plants and eight firearms and shut down more than 96 grow sites, including many in several different National Parks, such as Death Valley, Sequoia, and Mendocino National Forests. Have the Remains of Noah Pippin Been Found?



Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Rosalie and Mike Pippin believe that there is a strong likelihood that the human remains found in the Bob Marshall Wilderness on Friday evening belong to their son, Noah Pippin, a 30-year-old Marine who disappeared in September 2010 while hiking in Montana.
