For over 60 years, ASC has welcomed millions of skiers and snowboarders from around the world. ASC is values-driven, owned and operated by people who share a common appreciation and respect for each other and for the pristine environment in which we live.
Quite simply, employees of Aspen Skiing Company sincerely embrace and are inspired by the simplicity and power of our Guiding Principles. Written by and for our employees, our Guiding Principles influence both day-to-day and strategic decisions. No matter where our employees work (our four world-class mountains, our AAA Five Diamond and Mobil Five Star resort, or our residence club), the employees of ASC uphold a culture that fosters trust and rewards excellence while at the same time remaining responsible stewards of our pristine mountain environment.
On-site locker/shower facilities are available to ease the transition from outdoor recreation to work. Throughout all ASC business units, commuter bicycles are provided for those who need to run a short errand, or simply for day use.
During the summer months, departments may engage in numerous actions that encourage our employees to enjoy the great outdoors. Shifting to a condensed or flexible workweek, extending lunch breaks, on-mountain meetings and hikes are a few examples of our message to employees to enjoy the outdoors while balancing their workload.
ASC offers reduced membership fees at a number of our on-site fitness centers. ASC, however, considers and promotes the "Great Outdoors" as the best resource for optimal fitness routines. Bike and helmets are available for use after hours, weekends, during lunch, or meetings. Skis, snowboards, wrist top computers including heart rate monitors and geocaching equipment are available for employees. Stability balls are an alternative option to desk chairs. On-site offerings include monthly health awareness campaigns, an ASC-sponsored Health Fair, and conditioning and yoga classes.
Each year a volunteer group of paid employees support numerous environmental clean-up projects across the Roaring Fork Valley. Senior staff and salaried managers are encouraged to actively participate in our community, serving on boards as diverse as the Aspen Buddy Program, Roaring Fork Valley Community Health Plan and Roaring Fork Leadership. ASC gifts $1.4 million annually to hundreds of local non-profits. Community service initiatives include an ASC-sponsored community-wide Health Fair. All ASC employees are encouraged to volunteer their time in various community service programs.
ASC purchases in excess of 200 tons of green office supplies and earth-friendly disposables, such as Greenseal-certified and EPA-compliant facial tissue, paper towels, napkins and toilet paper containing significant recycled fiber. Buildings built or remodeled utilize recycled carpet or rubber products and seek to divert all waste to productive uses. Vehicle shops utilize waste-oil heaters to dispose of used oil and recycle anti-freeze. ASC created the industry's first green building protocol and built one of the first LEED-certified buildings in the world, the Sundeck at Aspen Mountain. ASC now has four LEED buildings in the ski industry, and is working on more. Employees who regularly ride their bikes to work are recognized and rewarded.
