Outside's top 10 bicycling blogs

These are my picks of the best blogs for cyclists. Before you get your chamois in a knot over all the killer pages I neglected and start sending hate mail about how out of touch I am, let me say this: These picks are personal, somewhat arbitrary, and based on the frequency I visit the blogs and the regularity that I ride away with something useful. There are tons of great sites out there that provide detailed, ongoing bike news and coverage (e.g. CyclingNews, Velo News, PinkBike, etc.). These aren't them. What I look for in a blog is analysis and opinion beyond the headlines and quirky bits that make me scratch my head or laugh out loud. These sites do that, so go check them out. And if you still feel like I missed the mark, bring on the hate mail—just make it informative (i.e. suggestions welcome) or at least scathing enough to give me a good chuckle.

10. Rapha Blog
9. Bike Snob NYC (Tie)
9. Boulder Report (Tie)
8. Vital MTB
7. The Inner Ring
6. BikeHacks
5. Fat Cyclist
4. Bangable Dudes in Pro Cycling
3. Rouleur Magazine Blog
2. Adventure Journal
1. Red Kite Prayer

What? No all hail the black market? Rapha needs to be bumped off the list for not making its team members get the SSCXWC tattoos they earned.

Thanks so much for recognizing my husband's blog RKP! What an honor.

"What I look for in a blog is analysis and opinion beyond the headlines and quirky bits that make me scratch my head or laugh out loud." I'd like to see a list of ALL the sites you checked out. How much looking did you do?

hey SWELL: i read dozens of cycling sites daily. if i posted them all there, it wouldn't be a Top Ten list. heck, i even gave you a bonus @ #9. and agreed with JOHN about SSCXWC tats—if you don't want 'em, don't win.

A top ten without All Hail The Black Market is ludicrous! Bangable Dudes in Pro Cycling? Really?

The Rapha Blog? You are joking. Besides their flaunting of tradition at SSCXWC (in spite of their sometimes painful positioning), selecting Rapha as the only brand blog worthy of this list is somewhat of a joke. How much research did you do?

All Hail the Black Market, Cycling Tips, and Ritte Racing would be on my list. Bangable Dudes in Pro Cycling is enjoyable, no doubt, but not in the top 10 sphere. But hell, it's your list.

You won't get much analysis or opinion but the TPC has barrels of quirky.

I agree, some on the list are worthy, but i also agree, how much looking went on in the blogosphere to come up with this?? No Pave', no drunkcyclist, no cyclocosm, no velominati, no cozybeehive, no...well, you get it. Glad the inner ring and RKP made it, thats really the only ones that are deserving here.

There's a lot of great writing out there about cycling, and the more you look, the more you find. Thanks for your list, but perhaps the best part of this piece are all the blog recommendations in the comments. And finally, thanks for paying homage to cycling blogs. With the downsizing in print media, I see them as the future of cycling reporting, providing interesting bits and pieces that the major sites may not be able to cover.

There are a lot of great blogs -- Inner Ring and RKP are excellent. I humbly submit my own atwistedspoke blog. It's the Onion of pro road racing. We write every day and cover racing for Cycle Sport magazine when it's TDF and TOC time. It's ProTour level satire and even folks like Landis and Bruyneel read us.

Well done for choosing YOUR idea of what suits YOU ! Guess i should add a blog i found recently rhat fits with what i have been looking for ! i even ran a comp in june trying to get people to recommend sites that were along this line ! 637daystogo is a Para Cyclist's site and from what i have seen is worth following , of course there are many other Para Athletes's sites and will be happy if others will let me know of them , skippi@ausi.com . Fat Cyclist is happy about being selected and no doubt you will have many more followers such as myself as a result of your choices !

Those who complain about missing items in any top ten list can easily start / populate their own fine blog with the top ten list they see fitting. After all this is the top ten list of this specific editor and not a democratic poll. :-)
