Last year, we listed Greg Mortenson’s Three Cups of Tea as the best adventure story of the decade. It sounded too good to be true. It turns out, at least parts of it were. Jon Krakauer teamed up with 60 Minutes to call out the lies in Mortenson’s books—and to question his motives. Outside talked to Mortenson about the allegations at the time of the airing, but since last spring, he has been very quiet.

Yes, and Jon Krakauer is being called to Missoula to give testimoney as well, whether with or without his permission. He is the answer man. Greg does not have to appear, he is the defendant. His accuser, Jon Krakauer, needs to bring his evidence forward and quit jerking the attorneys around. Do read Penguin's motion carefully, they said if they ever have to answer a complaint, they have their own additional evidence that they will bring foward as to why Krakauer decided to attempt to bring down Mortenson. Krakauer has no hold u in court evidence of any criminal wrong doing, and if he does, he better bring it forward before he is subpoened to do so. And Eric, you can hassle me on Open Salon. Don't start it here again. Did Jon and Outside kiss and make up? Aw, how sweet.
Flag ThisInteresting that Outside has given up waiting and jumped on the bandwagon. As if enough damage was not already done (or is it because JK was in the New Yorker with an Afghanistan article?). Climbing community - what a tight group - right. Why not let it play out in court and stay above the fray - would have been classier. This was always a case for the IRS to review since "concerned citizen Krakauer" wanted to save us all from the CAI - or whatever. But he wanted the full-on Hollywood take-down. I have one question for 'Outside': WHY WASN'T "JON KRAKAUER" THE FIRST NAME ON THE CLASS-ACTION SUIT? (Hello? *crickets*) Yeah... a slow year - and this solved his career-slump problem. Well done, all.
Flag ThisMr. Mortenson, for all the good he has done, is a liar and an abuser of charitable funds. Mr. Krakauer was not the one riding around in private planes, inflating his book sales at the expense of a charity, nor is he the one who now has two co-authors who have disappeared from view after numerous disputed aspects of the books NOT reported by Mr. Krakauer surfaced. Mr. Mortenson has had plenty of time to explain the countless inconsistencies in these fact challenged tales he has foisted on the public but has not done so. Stop shooting the messenger. The damage here is self-inflicted by dint of ego gone wild. Cheers, Aardvark
