With a glut of new sites dedicated to everything from bouldering films to alpine expeditions, staying current on climbing is an El Cap-sized endeavor. To help simplify your time online, we picked ten blogs that feature informative writing about climbing and its culture. As with any definitive list, some worthy candidates got cut. Two sites worth checking out are JStar in Orbit, the personal blog of sport climber Jonathan Siegrist, and Alpinist's Newswire, which is less of a blog and more of a thoroughly researched news site. Because we focused on rock climbing, you won't find big-mountain climbers like Alan Arnette on the list, either. The blogs below vary widely, so there's something for climbers of every discipline and skill level.

10. Splitter Choss
9. Sonnie Trotter
8. Bishop Bouldering Blog
7. Climberism
6. Dead Point Magazine
5. UK Climbing
4. PlanetMountain
3. High Places
2. Evening Sends
1. Climbing Narc

Having seen the analytics (and been a reader) of a few of these I think you are missing two that all of the best climbers in the industr are reading: 8a.nu And Joekindkid.com

I love Joe K's site. I'm not sure that 8a really counts as a blog though.

YEah I agree with Tim about Joekindkid.com. Joe Kinder's blog is really dope. The blog really stands out with all the write ups, images, AND periodic (tope notch) video content. Climbing Narc being number one is right on target in my opinion.... almost an online magazine really.

I agree that Joe's site should be on the list. I would also suggest louder than 11 (lt11.com).

While I love UKClimbing and Planet Mountain, I wouldn't describe them as blogs either.

Renan and I are pretty proud of verticalcarnival.blogspot.com check it out!

A real oversight by not including ColdThistle.com. Dane Burns excellent climbing related blog.

A major shortcoming and oversight by excluding ColdThistle.com. Dane Burns' very fine alpinism, and it's equipment blog.

Missed Dave MacLeod's blog, not only his personal experiences but his climbing coach section are good stuff. Also UncleSomebody. http://davemacleod.blogspot.com/

How could you not include www.jjobrienclimbing.blogspot.com

I would hardly consider UKClimbing or Dead Point Magazine a blog. If that is the case, I Outsideonline.com is "just a blog".

Gotta agree with Ron, I think theres a difference between a site that presents itself as a news site and a personal blog.

Wow Splitter Choss is only number 10? Have you even looked at this site? It is by far THE auothority on all things climibng. Oh well, I guess the corporate shills will hopefully come around next year and bump him up in the rankings.

I'm mostly annoyed at dpmclimbing being listed. Great site, but I would have loved to see individual blogs compared. I bet Outside can't wait for the cross-site publicity from those sites! Wooo! Some unfortunate oversights in the list for sure.

Pullharder.org is one of the greatest climbing blogs ever created. Outside magazine is on crack (the smoke-able, not climbable kind).

You guys are crazy. I thought the list was completely perfect! (Well, maybe Joe Kinder's blog should've been on there ... at least honorable mention!) Thanks for the recognition, Outside!

I think this list looks great. Joe K's blog is a good one and should be on there too. Not so sure about Louder than 11. It is ok and the movies are descent but it doesn't really "melt my face off".
