Kurt Markus

A highly-acclaimed photographer that can do it all.

Kurt Markus

Kurt Markus was born and raised in Montana and began his photography career capturing the simple ruggedness of landscape and life in the Western US. He has spent the last 30 years honing a highly developed but very organic aesthetic, which he seamlessly applies to his staggeringly wide-ranging work.

A model of versatility, Kurt's photography has been exhibited in numerous galleries internationally. He has shot advertising campaigns for the likes of Calvin Klein, Sony, Armani, Nike, Levi's, and BMW, photographed album covers for Jewel and Tori Amos, and has been the subject of several celebrated and award-winning fine-art books.

As far as editorial efforts, Kurt's work runs the gamut. He has photographed for fashion, culture, and lifestyle magazines like Outside, Vanity Fair, GQ, French and British Vogue, and Sport & Style and has made numerous contributions to travel journals such as Travel & Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler. His work has even found its place in news-oriented periodicals like The New York Times Magazine.

Whether it's a gallery piece or a fashion spread, Kurt's photographs retain a certain refreshingly unrefined quality and draw credibility from the raw truthfulness preserved by his measured and understated approach to production. This sense of realism resonates through all of his work and is the central element that makes his images so distinctively his own.
