Ibuprofen was released in 1974. On May 18, 1984, Wyeth (now Pfizer) received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its ibuprofen analgesic Advil, the first new non-prescription pain reliever in the United States in 29 years. Now, it’s the number one selling over-the-counter analgesic brand in the world with over 100 billion Advil tablets sold in the past 25 years alone. It’s the go-to anti-inflammatory for nearly every athlete, from weekend warriors to enthusiasts and beyond. None other than Jon Bon Jovi now personally endorses it.
